James Riemer, Jr.
Jim Riemer joined GCS in April 2004 as a political consultant and governmental affairs expert.
Jim brings more than a decade of experience in the field, having served as:
Deputy Director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, directing budget preparation for the $600 million agency, overseeing approximately 1,000 staff in the Offices of Land Management, Capital Development, Administration, Mines and Minerals and the Illinois Conservation Foundation, and developing legislative proposals to positively impact the agency and the natural resources of the state;
Statewide Leasing Manager for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, managing the Department’s statewide space needs and monitoring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act;
Executive Assistant for the Illinois State Comptroller, serving as key liaison with the executive and legislative branch, assisting with the drafting and implementation of legislation impacting the office, and representing the Comptroller before media legislature and administrative personnel.
Campaign Manager for Loleta Didrickson for U.S. Senate, spearheading image-making, campaign messaging and personnel management;
Marketing Director for United Analytical Services, overseeing business development and client relations.
Jim is a lifelong Springfield resident, with deep ties to the community. He is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and co-chairs Springfield’s Friend-in-Deed program. He also serves on the Capital Area Labor Management Council and is a board member for the Mini O’Bierne Crisis Nursery.
He holds a degree from Eastern Illinois University and is married to wife Laura, a realtor with The Real Estate Group in Springfield. They have two children, Jimmy and Olivia.
